Children with special needs are those who experience developmental, learning, or physical challenges that require additional care, support, and understanding. These may include conditions such as Down Syndrome, Autism, Dyslexia, ADHD, and other developmental or physical disabilities.
At our Centre, we lovingly support children with a variety of special needs, including Down Syndrome, ADHD, intellectual disabilities, and neurological conditions such as seizures. Each child is unique, and we strive to nurture their abilities while helping them grow with dignity and confidence.
Understanding Intellectual Disability
In the past, the term “mental retardation” was commonly used to describe individuals who learn and develop more slowly than others of the same age. Today, this condition is more respectfully referred to as Intellectual Disability (ID). The updated term is preferred because it is more sensitive and respectful toward individuals and their families.
A person with Intellectual Disability may have below-average intellectual functioning along with challenges in developing everyday life skills. These difficulties may affect different areas such as:
1. Daily Living Skills
This includes activities necessary for independent living, such as personal care, participating in recreation, managing money, and handling responsibilities at work or home.
2. Learning and Academic Skills
Some individuals may find it difficult to develop language abilities, reading, writing, mathematics, reasoning, memory, and problem-solving skills.
3. Social and Communication Skills
This includes the ability to build and maintain friendships, understand emotions, show empathy, communicate effectively, and develop healthy interpersonal relationships.
Activities and Support for Our Special Children
Just like other health conditions, Intellectual Disability can vary in degree, ranging from mild to severe. It may occur due to various reasons, such as brain injury, developmental conditions, or genetic factors.
With the right guidance, training, and encouragement, many individuals with intellectual disabilities can learn valuable life skills and become fully or partially independent. Our Centre focuses on providing supportive activities, therapy, and training programs that help children develop their abilities and participate actively in daily life.
We believe that every child has potential, and with love, patience, and the right opportunities, they can grow, learn, and lead meaningful lives.
